Hi.
Have you ever heard of of the Monkey Trial? It was one of the first well known stands ever taken for evolution, William Bryant was the Christian lawyer who defended creation. Sadly the trial turned into smart versus stupid meaning the Christians stupid and evolutionist's smart. The lawyer who defended John. T. Scopes was named Clarence Darrell. In 1925 Tennessee passed the BUTLER LAW forbidding the teaching of Darwin's evolution in any Public School or University; other southern states followed suit. This is the Butler law - "It shall be unlawful for any teacher in any of the universities, normals, and all other public schools of the State … to teach any theory that denies the story of the Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible, and to teach instead that man has descended from a lower order of animals.” Any teacher found guilty of the misdemeanor would be fined between $100 and $500. This case should have been an open and shut case-did a high school mathematics-turned-biology teacher teach evolution in class? If yes, Scopes was guilty of violating a new Tennessee law. When the trial began more then 1oo journalists were there thinking Darrow the tolerant and forward thinking and Bryan symbolized narrow-mindedness, tribalism, and social backwardness, Christianity at its worst. Sadly damage was done and Christians became ashamed to show their faith.
Bye.
